Ikam (Guiham) – Maguindanaon Handwoven Pandan Mat
Ikam (Guiham) – Maguindanaon Handwoven Pandan Mat
Hellooo pooo, Meet the Ikam — a traditional Maguindanaon handwoven pandan mat, also known in some communities as Guiham. Each piece is individually handcrafted by master mat weavers of the Maguindanaon tribe, proudly bringing their centuries-old craft to the world stage.
These weavers chose to remain anonymous — but they want the world to know: the Maguindanaon people have what it takes to stand among the finest mat weavers in the world.
Influenced by East Asian Bangsa Moro aesthetics, Maguindanaon Ikam features minimalistic bold, vibrant colors. Simple patterns drawn from the colors of nature, intertwined with natural pandan and traditional hues.
- Handwoven from locally sourced pandan leaves
- Leaves are dyed before weaving using synthetic textile dyes (mas abot kaya kasi)
- Each piece requires approximately 3–5 days of preparation
- Entirely handmade as always — no two pieces are exactly alike
- Slight variations in color, dimensions, texture, and weave pattern are natural characteristics of authentic handmade work
While pandan mat weaving is practiced across the Philippines, this Ikam is presented in the distinct Maguindanaon style and tradition — preserving its terminology, identity, and cultural heritage.
