Inaul Maguindanaon Malong with Natural Pure Philippine Cotton & Natural Dye

Inaul Maguindanaon Malong with Natural Pure Philippine Cotton & Natural Dye

Before it became a malong, it was a seed.

Planted in the fertile soil of Abra, sun-cured under open skies, and hand-harvested by farmers who understand that great textiles begin long before the loom. This is the story of our most intentional Inaul yet — one that took six full months to bring to life, and carries the hands of an entire community within its weave. The journey begins in the field. Local dye plants — leaves, bark, and roots — are harvested and prepared into natural vats using organic methods passed down through generations. Raw cotton bolls are eco-boiled to open their pores, then dyed naturally before being hand-reeled and spooled for warping. Nothing synthetic. Nothing rushed.

A specialized sulud (loom comb) is crafted by hand for a 4-meter-wide weave. Hundreds of individual threads are counted, calculated, and hand-threaded into the loom — one strand at a time. This is not production. This is devotion.

Then, the weaving begins.

Guided by master Maguindanaon artisans, the Inaul is woven as one continuous, seamless piece — a historical first for this textile tradition in the modern times. No center joint. No interruption. Just an unbroken expression of craft, rooted in a design dating back to 1887 — and possibly even earlier.

Six Months. Ten Pieces.

That's assuming nature cooperates — no typhoons, no floods, no landslides delaying the harvest or the dye baths. Real slow fashion honors the timeline of the earth, and this Inaul does exactly that.

Through our collaboration with AFTIIC from Abra, every person involved — from the farmers and researchers to the master loom maker, sulud maker, warper, and weavers — was given fair compensation for their specialized work. Because a textile that carries this much knowledge deserves to carry dignity, too.

What You're Holding

This is our first modern seamless Inaul — woven using 20Ne 2-ply double-strand combed cotton for exceptional tensile strength and a body that holds its shape beautifully. It measures approximately 34 × 43 inches when laid flat, making it ideal for structured garments, tapestries, or everyday malong wear.

  • 20Ne 2-Ply (Double Strand): Two threads twisted together before weaving — built to resist sagging and tearing.
  • Combed Cotton: Extra-processed to remove short fibers, leaving only the longest, strongest strands.
  • Seamless Construction: One whole piece, no center joint — a first in modern Inaul production.

Limited to 10 pieces.

Each one is more than a finished textile. It is farmers. It is makers. It is traditional knowledge kept alive. It is Maguindanaon weaving — honored, evolved, and offered to the world with intention.

This is Inaul with intention.
